As we gear up for the holiday season, we wanted to provide you with an update on the status of holiday decorations along St. Johns Avenue in the City of Palatka. Our Public Works team has been hard at work preparing the city for this festive time of year despite some infrastructure challenges linked to ongoing downtown improvement projects.
In anticipation of the annual Palatka Christmas Parade, we have scheduled street sweeping on St. Johns Avenue, beginning at midnight on Wednesday, November 22nd.
One crucial aspect of our ongoing efforts to revitalize the St. Johns Avenue corridor is the replacement of the aging electrical infrastructure along the street. We are actively working to maintain the currently functional electric outlets to power holiday lights. However, due to the condition of the infrastructure, we will continue to experience issues. While City staff and vendors are diligently working to maintain the functionality of the existing lights, it is regrettably expected that several sections of the street may not be illuminated as intended.
Additionally, due to the ongoing project by the Florida Power and Light Company to replace streetlights along St. Johns Avenue, we will be supplementing the street lighting during the parade with portable lighting. Rest assured, we will continue to prioritize and address these lighting issues until the new poles are installed after January 1st.
The garland and wreaths previously used as holiday decorations were deposed of because of their poor condition. Given the timing of the light pole replacement project, we have opted not to install wreaths this year.
We want to assure you that our staff is fully prepared and scheduled to provide support for the Christmas Parade and other holiday events. We deeply appreciate your understanding during these challenges, and we remain steadfast in our commitment to making this holiday season as successful and enjoyable as possible.
