St. Johns Ave. Enhancements and Infrastructure Updates

Pal_02072024_stjohns-1The City, County and their contractors are ramping up efforts to resurface and enhance St. Johns Avenue over the next several months. Below is an update on some of the projects and work being done on this major thoroughfare in the City.

Pipe Inspections

Contractors are currently conducting thorough inspections of the City sewer lines between 13th and 16th streets. This essential work precedes Putnam County’s upcoming project, which will focus on rehabilitating and resurfacing St. Johns Avenue from 11th Street to Palm Avenue. While these inspections are ongoing, temporary closures of intersections along St. Johns Avenue may occur, lasting for one to two hours.

Streetlight Replacement Project

Florida Power and Light’s ongoing project on St. Johns Avenue is set to improve lighting infrastructure significantly is almost complete. The project involved replacing existing streetlights with 118 historically accurate and energy-efficient LED streetlights mounted on 59 new poles. Simultaneously, the project modernized the underground wiring and infrastructure to enhance reliability and efficiency. This will give the City more opportunities for holiday lights and decorations this year.

This streetlight installation project is just one part of a comprehensive effort to revitalize downtown Palatka’s St. Johns Avenue, encompassing new landscaping, sidewalks, curbs, intersections, and benches.
