Rufus Borom has a wealth of experience in leadership and project management. For more than 21 years he has exhibited a commitment to lead with integrity and professionalism. Now he enters another chapter in his career as a Commissioner of the City of Palatka for Group 4. His vision is to ensure that the City of Palatka provides efficient and effective services through fiscal accountability and economic development. Mr. Borom is passionate about accountability and a firm believer that integrity, collaboration and services are critical to the success and progress of our community.
Rufus Borom was born in Birmingham, Alabama. He resided in Union Springs, Alabama until the age of 6. After the death of his father the family moved to Haines City, Florida. He is a graduate of Haines City High School. Mr. Borom furthered his education earning a Bachelor of Science in Computer Information Systems at Florida A & M University and a Masters in Business Administration from Webster University. In 1992 after graduating from Florida A & M University, he moved to Palatka, met and married L’Tracy Edwards. They are the proud parents of son Zak’Ri, a student at Palatka High School.
Mr. Borom is the past owner of two local businesses; Ebony and Ivory Beauty Salon and Borom’s Computer Sales and Services. He has achieved technical certifications in Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer, Microsoft Certified Professional, Network Plus (+), A Plus(+), CAT5 Certified and Fiber Optics.
Mr. Borom is a member of Mt. Tabor First Baptist Church. Mr. Borom's civic duties include serving on the Zoning Board of Appeals for the City of Palatka since 2010. He also participates in varied activities with respect to improving the beautification and economic development of his community by working with Keeping Putnam Beautiful and Habitat for Humanity in addition to other community initiatives such as Breast Cancer Awareness and March of Dimes. Mr. Borom has invested countless hours coaching and mentoring Palatka’s youth in football, basketball and soccer for Palatka High School, PAL (Police Athletic League). In his spare time he enjoys spending time with his family, traveling, fishing, reading, billiards, bowling basketball and motorcycle racing.
