The Palatka City Commission has approved an Alternative Water Treatment Pilot Study using Hydrogen Peroxide as a strategy to reduce levels of Trihalomethane (THM) levels in the water, The City has been working with the Florida Rural Water Association and the Florida Department of Environmental Protection to develop strategies to lower THM levels.
Public Meetings were held to discuss the pilot program with Palatka Water Utility Customers, as well as a public notice that was distributed in November regarding the Maximum Contaminant Level (MCL) exceedance to Palatka residents who are currently on City water utilities. The use of Hydrogen Peroxide can reduce the initial formation of THMs and prevents later formation of TMHs in the storage phase.
